Walkydog: The History
It
all started some years ago when Caesar, passionate about dogs and
mountain bikes, decided the time had come to find a solution to the
problem that was keeping him from enjoying both his passions: to walk with his dog and to ride his bike!
As it happened, his dog Plinsky (a very lively 4 year old Siberian
Husky) was not an easy guy to bike with — leading him by a leash, road
holes to avoid, the mobile phone to answer, the cigarette to light
(Caesar gave up smoking, now), sidewalks to get on, direction changes
to indicate, etc. On top of that, Plinsky was very attracted by other
dogs as well as cats, stopping suddenly when he saw one and
side-stepping trying to grab them! No wonder Caesar had several
accidents. Nothing serious, but it was time to get the problem solved! Caesar asked several pet and bike shops
for some accessories or tools to help him out; unfortunately, he found
nothing that would allow him to ride his bike along with his dog in
full safety, both for himself and for Plinsky.
Disappointed and inspired by the famous Italian creativity (there
are rumors Leonardo da Vinci was a far-away ancestor!), he designed and built the first prototype of the WalkyDog®, striving to combine total safety with flexibility and ease of use and assembly.
That's how the first prototypes of the WalkyDog® were manufactured and
given out to friends for testing. For 5 years, Caesar and his friends
took their dogs out regularly with the WalkyDog®, having fun and
enjoying the peculiar features of the tool.
By mid 2002, while having dinner with Marco (one of his best friends
and an ex-colleague), Caesar and his friend thought that other dog
lovers might have the same problem with their dogs and bikes. So, why
not turn the WalkyDog® into a project and sell it on the market?
In October of 2002, Caesar and Marco established their company, BICE SRL, to manufacture and market the WalkyDog®.
